Items You Need To Clean After Your Renovation
No matter what room of your home you renovate, cleanup is inevitable. Between the sawdust, chips of drywall, and scraps of old material that renovation leaves, the mess can be tough to handle – and while the visible places are usually picked up, there are a few spots that tend to go unnoticed. Make sure you don’t forget to clean these items after your home renovation.
Pull up and clean under your air vents
Floor vents present a unique cleaning challenge, in that sawdust and other dirt can become wedged underneath them. The material underneath the vents can sometimes be blown underneath your flooring, leading to a huge problem. Remove the screws and ensure no material is wedged underneath the vent grate, then clean the interior with warm, soapy water. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as the vents could spread the smell throughout your home.
Change the air filter in your home
With as much grime as a renovation puts into the air, the filter in your HVAC system works overtime. Even if you hire a professional crew, they sometimes forget to replace the filter. Make sure you put a new one in as soon as the renovation is finished to protect yourself and your family against harmful particles in the air.
Clean your fans
Ceiling fans are often overlooked in day to day cleaning, and especially after renovation – until the owner turns it on and is greeted with a shower of debris. Using a pipe cleaner or small tool, thoroughly clean the blades and the grooves of the fan. Failing to do this can result in debris raining down throughout the room. Make sure to check the small, tight areas of the fan to ensure you don’t get a nasty surprise later.
Indoor shutters
Much like ceiling fans, indoor shutters can hide a lot of dirt and dust. If you don’t know how to clean indoor shutters, it’s easy. All you need is a flexible cloth that allows you to wipe behind the wood. If you’re unable to do that, simply unscrew them from the windows and clean the backs with warm, soapy water. Make sure you dry them properly so the water doesn’t warp them.
Home renovation leaves a huge mess, but it’s well worth it in the end. A new look to your home can revitalize rooms in ways you might never have imagined. Just make sure to clean all of the items you might sometimes forget about!
