When it comes to selling a home, the small details can make a big difference. Well before you put your home on the market, you need to inspect every inch of your property and take care of any minor problems that might drive off potential buyers. 

Noisy Floors

Over the course of a few years, wooden floorboards will begin to warp and bend, and that movement can result in unpleasant noises. While this isn’t necessarily a serious structural issue, it could be a major problem when it comes time to show your home. The easiest way to stop these noises is to insert shims between the joists and the underside of the floorboard. You can also sprinkle some talcum powder or powdered graphite into the joints between the floorboards to prevent them from rubbing against one another. 

Chipped Countertops

A chipped countertop is a very common cosmetic problem, and that form of damage is usually repaired with some form of epoxy. For larger chips and cracks, you should contact a local contractor who specializes in countertop repairs. Filling a long crack with epoxy might not look that great if you don’t have the right tools and a steady hand. The contractor might also need to reinforce the bottom of the countertop if the crack goes all the way through the stone. 

Wobbly Banisters

A wobbly banister is an accident waiting to happen, and you need to take care of this problem right away. To reinforce a banister, you must pry away the trim and tighten all of the underlying screws. You can also drill additional screws directly through the newel and baluster posts, but that is only going to be a temporary solution. For a long-term fix, you must reattach the base of the banister to the underlying joists. Luckily, a contractor who offers welding services should be able to handle reattaching loose or broken parts.

Corroded Sinks

Even if you have a great water filtration system, some of your sinks might become corroded or rusty. Because this is damage directly to the metal of the sink itself, the faucet and the other metal parts should be replaced before you show your home off. This can be done by you or by a professional plumber if the process becomes too complicated, depending on your sink type.

In addition to taking care of these few details, you should also spend some time staging and cleaning your home. Potential buyers need to be able to see themselves living in your house, and that is going to be very difficult if the rooms are messy and the floors are covered in clutter. Even though the buyers know the home has been used, no one wants to move into a house that looks worn down.
